About Us

Welcome to the beautiful mountains of Virginia!

Join us, Dan & Del, married for 40 years, as we figure out, work on projects & enjoy retirement at our little homestead along the river!

We have 3 amazing kids, 2 granddaughters and 2 great grands!!! We purchased our little cabin alongside the river in 2016, spending every available moment since planning, gardening & putting in systems with goals focusing on self-sufficiency, sustainability, and connecting to the land. Dan is retired military, & retired from his contracting job. I am a Community Herbalist, & retired Yoga Instructor/Studio Owner.

Most people think we are crazy to plan aging in place & retiring on our mountain homestead, as there's not a single flat piece of land on our almost 12 acres!!! We have 2 dogs, Kai (German Shepherd) & Lunette (Chihuahua) & a cat named Gypsy. We already have chickens- and a rooster named Rhett - goats are in our future.

We also volunteer as Trail Angels for thru hikers and section hikers on the portion of the Appalachian Trail that runs through our area here in Nelson County, Va. We also help out hikers in Amherst and Augusta Counties. We have met some amazing folks and look forward to the AT Class of 2026!

Come back to see us & join us on our journey for more exciting adventures!

Our Frozen Mountain Holler...What do you do?

Our frozen mountain holler... what do you do with your time? You make ice sun catchers and ice candles!!! We also tend the chickens and make sure they are warm and fed. And we do a lot of bird watching from inside the cabin, because this beautiful snow is covered with ice!

Wishing you a Christmas filled with natural joy and quiet beauty! Merry Christmas 2025!

Video Christmas Card from our home to yours!!! A winter wonderland on full display with quiet joy, snow, nature and simple blessings.... Warmest wishes from our little haven in the woods. Merry Christmas!!!

Snowy campfire brunch by the river

First snow of the year! It was a beautiful sunny day, so we decided to enjoy a little brunch along our riverbank!

Summer Remnants Linger... Amidst The Autumn Colors

The summer flowers linger, as we haven't had a frost. All beautifully displayed amidst the autumn colors.
