Join us on our retirement journey at our mountain homestead! We are Dan & Del, married for 39 years, with 3 amazing kids, 2 beautiful granddaughters, and our 1st great grandson, William. We purchased our little mountain cabin alongside a river in 2016, spending every available moment since planning, planting & working on our forever homestead. Dan is retired military, and is now retired from his contracting job. I am a Community Herbalist and owner of Zen Butterfly Boutique & Herbals. We have twin daughters, Mary & Sarah that live close by here in Virginia and our son, Forrest & family live in N.C. Most people think we are crazy to plan aging in place & retiring on our mountain homestead, as there's not a single flat piece of land on our almost 12 acres!!! We already have chickens- and a new rooster named Rhett... goats are in our future! Come back to see us & join us on our trek with its many exciting adventure so far - more to come!
We have a small YouTube Channel documenting our downsizing
journey to retirement!

Check out our 2024 Video Christmas Card as we celebrate our first Christmas at the cabin after retiring!!!
You can also view our 2021 Yorktown Christmas Card to see just how much we have downsized!!!
We are listed on their network as Bear Haven Medicinal & Native Plant Sanctuary.
We discovered our beautiful property has many native medicinal plants to
include Jewelweed, Nettle, Witch Hazel Tree, Cleavers, Mullein, Dandelion, Wild
Yarrow, Joe Pye Weed (Gravel Root), Solomon Seal, Self-Heal, Plantain, White Pine Tree, Wild Yam, and Sassafras; as well as many types of native mushrooms, including Reishi.
We have also planted many medicinal plants since purchasing the property and to name a good few: Goldenseal (gifted to me by Kat Maier while I was attending the Foundations Course in 2017/2018 at Sacred Plant Traditions), St. John’s Wort, Wild Ginger, Elderberry Trees, Wood Betony, Valerian, Smooth Sumac Trees, Bergamot, Comfrey, Goji Berry, Ginkgo Biloba Tree, a variety of Mints, Rosemary, Sage, Greek Oregano, Spice Bush, Boneset, Hawthorne Tree, a Rugosa Rose Bush, Blood Root, Burdock,
Blue Cohosh and Oregon Grape.
